Midsummer Temperance

Midsummer Temperance is an oddity here at Silver Oak Stables. He was actually given to us as a gift from a family friend of the owner, a little foal with a great bit of promise it seemed, especially since the original owners didn't have the room to care for him. He was a sweet little thing, all long limbs and small whinnies. He got along famously with our companion horse Honey, and soon grew to be a reasonable horse ready to strike out on the race track.

Midsummer Temperance, or Middy as we call him here at the stable is what one could consider a polished horse. Not quite as soft as some of our other horses but certainly acts more like a show pony than he does a racehorse. He's polished in the way he moves, almost like a horse built for dressage but manages to work himself up to a speed that rockets over the track... when he feels like it.

Still he is as crafty as he is stubborn, wanting things done his way and his way only he can be quite the handful. He's terrified of puddles, we think it's because he isn't one to get his hooves wet. Either way, it takes a firm hand, and sometimes some bribery with treats, to get him ready for a race. We work him well and take our time, and Middy will eventually show us what he's capable of.
